I was hiding.
Three years ago, I received an invitation to celebrate a friend’s 50th birthday. The invite read “Wear Something Fabulous.”
My mind started to race with all of the possibilities — sequins, bold colors, patterns, fancy dresses, heels — and then I actually took a look in my closet.
And my heart sank into my stomach.
What I found was a closet full of black hooded sweatshirts, jeans and t-shirts. Not a fabulous item in sight.
In that moment I was confronted with the fact that I had been hiding.
